PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The medieval fortress of Zakagori with its three towers and small houses within the wall is considered a national monument of considerable importance. Located in the Truso valley, on the left bank of the Terek river, it represents a landmark for the entire region. The project focused on recovering the historical value of the medieval fortress by restoring the dry stone walls, consolidating the original structure wherever possible. On the other hand, the towers project is based on the construction of an internal iron-framed structure with the aim of consolidating the existing masonry. The objective of the project is to recover the historical value of the asset and enhance it with a new use as an open-air museum, favouring the visit of the site through a defined route with walkways, footbridges, signs and equipped areas.
