The traditional houses in the old town of Telavi date back to the period when King Erekle II (1744 – 1798) reigned, who turned the town into the second capital of the kingdom and imposed a new town planning on what is considered the old town today.
Restoration works on the façades of the traditional houses and architectural renovation of the roofs and rainwater gutters. Demolition of building superfetations. Recovery of local brick wall structures. Enhancement of degraded elements: lime plasters, colouring with natural mineral pigments, wooden balconies, window frames and shading systems using local building materials and techniques.
