The area of intervention is a site owned by the Poor Clares near Rukomo. It is a plateau, located on the top of a plateau that affords an enchanting view of the lush hills that shape the Rwandan landscape. The new building qualifies as a sanctuary in nature, a reference point for the local community and a pilgrimage destination for those from the surrounding countryside who wish to retreat in search of an inner experience. The new church has the ambition to enrich the place on which it stands, becoming a landmark. In this sense, the design of the church does not end with the design of the interior or the external envelope, but extends to the surrounding area, to allow adequate use of the building in its ambition as a reference point for the area
The Project starts from the investigation of structural forms to arrive at a formal synthesis that has led to the identification in the thin vaults of the compositional solution adopted in the project.
