The Fruttuaria Abbey was founded around the year 1000 in San Benigno Canavese (Italy) by Guglielmo da Volpiano. In 1770 the Romanesque church and old monastery were demolished (the bell tower is the only building which was saved) to build a new church, designed by architects Vittone and Quarini, who built the new building in the last phase of Baroque classicism. In 1879, the abbey complex was entrusted to Don Bosco and his Salesians.
