RESTORATION OF THE WOODEN STRUCTURE OF THE CLOISTER IN CASTIGLIONE TORINESE – ITALY

Listed by the Superintendence for Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape – Ministry of Cultural Heritage

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The architectural complex dates back to the second half of the 17th century and consists of a rectangular sleeve building and a large cloister in red bricks. The building was presumed to be used as a watchboard for the payment of salt pedestries. During the 18th century the complex burnt down and in the early 19th century it was rebuilt and completed with other buildings. In 1838 Canon Cottolengo inherited and installed an order of 50 hermits there, which ceased to function when the founder died. Today the complex is home to the town hall.
